Sheni and Teni was founded to help raise well rounded, confident and empathetic children through cultural education and representation.
We are simply a celebration of African cultures. We're passionate about creating an avenue for children to learn all about African cultures while playing.
We believe this stirs up questions about diversity, ethnicity, heritage and culture thus expanding their horizons. We do this by creating unique, exciting, good quality products that you and your Littles can bond over.
It fills us with so much pride and joy when we see the excitement on children's faces as they play with our products and ask questions. This is ever so important today more than ever. When children see their skin tone represented in toys and books, it lets them know they are important. It lets them know that their stories and voices matter. It opens up possibilities in their minds' eye of just who and what they can be. This is our raison d'être.
Folasayo Williams has worked in the UK Financial Industry for over 12 years and has always had the same experience of being the 'odd one out' (by virtue of skin colour, background and gender) regardless of the institution, team or project she found herself working in.
This experience, coupled with her inability to find good quality toys that were representative of her culture, ethnic background and hue as she began raising a young family, drove her to invest her savings into creating this business.
She strongly believes little children need to see people that look like them in the toys they play with and media they consume. She also wanted a means by which non-Africans could learn about the diverse and beautiful African cultures across the continent thus providing a space to learn about diversity from a young age.
She lives in Kent with her husband and two sons.
